I received this swivel top salt box as a birthday gift. Right away, you know this is going to be something special. The weight of the marble is very nice, and makes it have a very "rich" feel to it. This is LARGE too, larger than you might guess from the photo. At 5" diameter and a bit over 2" tall this thing is more than a handful. This won't work very well if you plan on placing it on the back of your stove, where the edge isn't very wide, but I don't think your supposed to use it there anyway. Mine sits on my dining room table and we use it as we would a salt mill or shaker.
The swivel on the top is very sturdy and I am sure will last for years. The lid slides cleanly with no problems. On the bottom are four felt pads so your furniture does not get scratched.
The two compartments are LARGE and I won't have to refill this thing very often. For mine I have coarse kosher in one side and fine sea salt in the other. Who could ask for more? This is heaven for me.
There isn't a tiny little spoon to come with it, if you want one you will need to supply your own. But if you had one just keep in mind you would have to store the spoon elsewhere because it won't probably fit inside with the lid closed.

This is a great marble salt box. I'm not sure that it's completely air tight if that's a concern, but it's close. It's also bigger than I thought, about 6 inches in diameter. Hinge seems like it's good quality.

As far as construction and materials, this is a well made product. It's heavy and doesn't "walk" when you use it. The marble on the INSIDE wells is a bit rough...maybe that's for a reason, but it feels weird when you pinch out some salt or pepper and scrape the bottom. Also, this is not airtight so if you live in high humidity it might not be the choice for you. This product may have deserved a higher rating from me...I guess I'm not that crazy about the way it looks on my counter and sorry I didn't go with a wooden one.

My grandson suggested I purchase this, and I'm so happy I took his advice! I keep it on my counter beside my range, and it's so convenient to add sea salt and course ground pepper while I'm cooking and preparing food!
