Classy and green - no more plastic!Feb 18, 2008

These really are heavy, shiny, high quality straws, and I have no reluctance to use them for guests. If you like steel, the straws are beautiful. There are small rings etched around the area of the bend, which makes them look like a piece of art, rather than lab equipment. And, they've continued to look great after many trips through the dishwasher.
I bought these so I could stop tossing plastic straws in the trash every week. (I have kids, and they like smoothies.) I would feel guilty for potentially contributing to that mass of plastic swirling in the middle of the Pacific Ocean. Now I feel virtuous. Sure, it will take a few years of use for these straws to pay for themselves, but in the meantime, I feel good, my kids remember an important lesson about saving the environment every time they drink a smoothie, and when I have guests, the straws are an instant conversation starter.

Okay productAug 09, 2009
By Cigarchick I love using straws. When I found these, I had to have them. I make melon balls and freeze them for drinks. These sturdy metal straws make it easy to pierce the melons with to grab a bite. Personally, I like the straws, but, I do have a few things to point out.
- If you have metal fillings, you may get that weird sensation in your teeth that occasionally happens if you use metal utensils.
- If your drink is very chilled/frozen, the straws will also transfer the cold.
- Be careful not to hit your teeth with these...they could chip them.
- If you wash things in the dishwasher, this is a hard item to place into it. They fall through the holes in my utensil basket. If you place them on their sides, the water will not properly flow to clean them. Not quite sure what the answer is to this one other than hand washing.

Bought a second setSep 16, 2008
By N. Kauffman We liked these metal straws so much that we bought a second set. These are very solid stainless steel straws that should last us a lifetime. I much prefer them over plastic straws.

Great quality!Apr 10, 2009
By FL Mom I'm very please with these straws. Nice and heavy but not too heavy. Smooth tips and even the bent "lines" like the real plastic ones. Also, the description doesn't say on Amazon but the packaging says they are 18/10 stainless steel and they are 8.5" long.

Weird taste...Jul 15, 2010
By Anonymous I agree with a previous review that the stainless steel straws have an odd taste that no amount of cleaning can erase. However, my son and husband don't notice it.
Maybe only certain people are sensitive to it. I almost didn't buy these for that reason. I already knew that I hated to drink from a stainless steel travel coffee cup that was given to me as a present. Another review suggests that fillings might cause a problem, but I don't have fillings.
I should've just gone with my first inclination to buy glass straws which are made in America and sold are here by Amazon. (FYI: These are made in China. )
I do not recommend these for people who are sensitive to tastes and smells, but I will probably keep them for my son and husband and buy glass straws for myself.
Just the fact that plastic straws are no longer used and thrown away by my family is a step in the right direction for our environment!
**Note: Another reviewer for a similar product mentioned that the weird taste has something to do with an allergy to nickel which is in stainless steel.
