I have been using these filters for over a year now in our composter pail that sits on our counter. They work great. I have never had a bad smell in my kitchen, and we cook often with garlic and onions. We live by the beach and when they get moldy, I just rinse them our with water and let them dry. I only throw them away when they are pretty much falling apart.

Does its job well, but be aware of size considerationsMar 27, 2011

No complaints about the quality of the material. It does what it does and so far it has avoided becoming a fruit fly nest the way my previous off-brand filter had. Be certain that you are aware of the small size of these filters. If you do not have the Norpro models listed here, chances are that this filter is smaller than your compost bin. I had another brand and discovered that these were too small for my larger (roughly 1 gallon) bin. Nonetheless, I used tape to make them cover the vent holes and it worked fine.

We bought these as replacements for the one that came with our counter compost crock. I love that they can be washed out when they start growing things. No matter how long we take to empty our crock, we never notice a smell, thanks to these filters. It's great to have two so that one can be drying while the other is in the crock.

This product is what I use in my sink side compost pail. It is well made and fits as it should. The size is correct for the type of pail I have.

I love my ceramic compost pail. These filters fit in the lid and you never smell anything in the composter. I ordered these just to have two more on hand. When they reach a certain point I just wash them out with sudsy water and let them dry. They are ready to use all over again. Great product!
