Heavy DutyJul 10, 2007
By P. Thompson Ordered this about a month ago. It was intended to cover 1/2 of a double sink for extra work area. I was very surprised at the quality. VERY heavy duty and meant for long life and durability. I liked this Item so much, I ordered a second one today to use as a workboard on another counter. The packing was awesome. The only suggestion is if they could find a substitute for the massive amount of "puff foam" that is non-recylable.

Just plain WOWFeb 27, 2010

I wasn't sure what to expect quality wise considering I paid under 70$ but it arrived today and I am very impressed, the stone is polished to perfection, the coloration is gorgeous and it's incredibly heavy, which I like because now I won't have to worry about my work surface shifting while rolling out doughs. The only difference between mine and the one in the picture other than obviously being a different piece of stone, is mine has sharp corners and the one in the picture has rounded. Tips for prospective buyers: this is not a cutting board, it is a pastry board so don't use knives on it (I'm sure cookie cutters are fine, but no sharp blades. with a little TLC this item will last generations). If you don't think it's cool enough just chill it in the freezer for about 15 minutes.
EDIT: just wanted to add on, that I used this board for a particular candy recipe which requires pouring 260 degree liquid onto a FROZEN marble board, to be honest I was TERRIFIED that the thing would explode from the temp differences, but it did just fine!

Marble pastry board--tough to openFeb 06, 2009

As one customer noted, the packaging was formidable but very essential as it turned out. The outer carton (one out of three) was badly damaged. Had it not been for the inner styrofoam package this item would have been destroyed. The item itself came in perfect condition and is an excellent value for the price.

A Packaging GambleOct 26, 2010
By Michael I'm not sure if the these slabs are forwarded to us directly without inspection by this seller on Amazon, but I did receive mine with a small chip on one of the sides. Obviously the chipping occurred before packaging since the missing chunk was not included in the adequate packaging which pretty much seals the board. It doesn't seem like a good idea to use knives on this surface and it makes me cringe when I read about people doing so. It's a *pastry* board. People also need to beware that it's (a) very heavy and (b) slippery when wet. If you have critters and/or children underfoot, take extra care when handling this slab. If you're accident prone buy some steel-toed shoes.
